Mike Wattick-Ward 2

For the last seventeen years, my wife Pamela and I have been fortunate to call Summit home. I’m excited about the opportunity to add a fresh voice to local government. I am a Republican, but as Fiorello LaGuardia said, “There’s no Democratic or Republican way to fix a pot hole.” We don’t elect Republicans or Democrats in Summit, we elect neighbors.

I was born the second of six children in a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Like so many families in Western Pennsylvania, mine was hit hard by the globalization of the steel industry. Basic economics forced us out of what is now called the rust belt in the 1970’s in search of a better future. The hollowing out of middle America impacted me and my family in a way I will never forget. I returned to Pittsburgh for college, attending Duquesne University where I put myself through school and met my wife Pamela.
Shortly after getting engaged to Pam, I started looking for a place to raise a family. When we found Summit, it was love at first sight! We bought our first home in June 2000 and over the last seventeen years our family has grown to include four children. All four brought into the world at Overlook hospital, all four attend Summit public schools. Since 2003 I’ve worked as a Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor at a global investment firm. In 2013 I moved my business to downtown Summit. Having a one mile commute gives me time to serve on council.
Why run for common council? Simply stated, because I believe in public service and want to give back to the city that has been such a great place to live and raise a family. Summit’s best asset is its citizens, people from all walks of life who dedicate their time and talents to our beloved city.
I am committed to volunteerism, currently serving as President of Summit Taxpayers Association, a member of the Summit Parking Advisory Committee and a member of the YMCA annual appeal team. I have also served as Chairman of the Summit Red Cross and coached my children’s sports teams. I know the challenges Summit families face because I live them myself.
Running a business, raising a family and paying taxes all are more expensive today than ever before. Too many families are paying more for the taxes on their home than they do on their mortgage. Summit families earn their money through hard work, and they deserve a government that spends it wisely.
My commitment to you is to listen to your needs and concerns, work hard every day, and always do what is best for Summit. If this is a message that resonates with you, please let me know. And please contact me anytime with any questions, concerns or ideas you have. My direct email is mike@mikewattick.com and my phone number is (908) 358-6236.
Working together we can keep Summit strong and better than ever. I look forward to hearing from you!
